The 1992 Softail Custom
that I've owned from day one. The one of a kind eagle artwork was done
by Pamelina of Sun Valley before she became rather well
known. (Check out
http://www.pamelina.com) I wanted something understated but different - not the
usual flames or graphics.
One of the appealing
features of the bike is the 18 inch rear wheel and low profile
tire. The stock Softail came with a 16 in. solid disk rear
wheel that I didn't much care for. Since I'm an old timer who
thinks motorcycles are supposed to have spokes, I went with
matching billet aluminum wheels from Sun with stainless steel
spokes. The rear tire is a 140 / 70 x 18 and the front is a
90 / 90 x 21.
The Evo motor is basically
stock except for Wiseco forged pistons which have performed
beautifully all these years - well worth the investment. It
also has an S & S carburetor, Dyna 2000 ignition and a mild
performance camshaft from Andrews. The adjustable Hooker
exhaust includes nicely fitted heat shields preventing any
view of the "ugly blues."
Other special features include
Accutronix billet aluminum forward controls, Progressive
adjustable rear suspension, a Corbin "Gunfighter" seat, 12
inch ape hangers, chromed swing arm and a Ness billet aluminum
license plate frame with the narrow turn signal lights.
At this point, it's kind of
long in the tooth - 68,000 miles but still running strong.
It's been up and down the California coast, across the Sierras
a few times and many trips to Death Valley and Laughlin.
Not a show bike by any stretch of the imagination. |
