Here’s a rare look at stunt car driving from 1972. It’s the story of a stunt competition between a Japanese team and an American team. It’s a documentary style film but has what is supposed to be romantic story line as well.
It has examples of almost every car stunt ever attempted – jumps, driving on 2 wheels, fires and even a Porsche 911 jumping into what appears to be one of the canals in Venice California.
The film was made by Japanese filmmakers and the story is told from the Japanese team’s point of view. But it’s filmed almost entirely in Southern California with scenes from the old Ascot Raceway in Gardena, Riverside Raceway, Long Beach and Marina Del Rey. The cars are mostly Detroit sedans circa 1968 – 1972..
The romance is between “Linda” a blond California babe and “Ohtomo” the Japanese team leader who looks more like a red haired American. Linda is some sort of competition coordinator but it’s never fully explained.
This film gives new meaning to “low budget” and is complete with painful to watch acting. But those of you who collect car movies will want this one in your collection.
Viewing quality of this DVD is excellent - near perfect. It is shipped in a plastic case with the artwork as shown.
