Here are two films from the mid-1950s
In "Mask of Dust," a racing driver is bedeviled by bad luck and disaster... On leaving the Air Force, driver Peter Wells (Richard Conte) rejoins the Italian Corsi team. But Wells is dogged by bad luck and his wife, Pat (Mari Aldon), begs him to retire. When Pat can take no more of her husband's reckless behavior she leaves him, but Wells remains determined to take part in the Piemonte Grand Prix. Behind the wheel of a potentially lethal car, Wells has everything to prove and nothing left to lose.
"Men Against Speed" is an almost never seen film which was a 60-minute TV adaptation of the 1955 Kirk Douglas film called “The Racers.” Regis Toomey, Farley Granger and Rick Jason play a family auto-racing team, a father and two sons. Intent upon proving that their American sports car is the superior to any foreign job, Toomey and his sons enter The Mille Miglia, the 1,000 road race in Italy.
